Crohn's Disease Causes And Why There's No Cure

Finding out Crohn’s disease causes is something that many researchers today are working on. This condition has not only become more prevalent in recent times, but it seems to be more common in developed countries, rather than developing ones. This may be because bacteria or other stimuli, present in modern environments, trigger the condition.

One word that often comes up when talking about Crohn’s disease causes is 'may'- this is because, it is still unclear as to what causes this condition. Without knowing the cause, it is impossible to find a cure. While research is ongoing in this matter, the best way to deal with Crohn's disease is to monitor the condition regularly and deal with the symptoms that flare up from time to time.

What Could It Be

Studies have put forth a number of culprits that might be Crohn’s disease causes. However, none of these can be proved to be the single cause and there are still a number of unanswered questions. One of the most popular theories is that of the misguided immune system army. When studying the immune system operations of patients suffering from this disease, it was noted that almost anything was attacked and treated, as if it was a foreign body. This means that even harmless, ordinary food was perceived as a threat and dealt with accordingly. It is the effect of this, that might be what we see as Crohn's disease, but what might cause the reaction is still unknown.

Another theory is that one of the Crohn’s disease causes could be an outside agent or trigger. Something in the environment causes the body to react but even here, it is unclear what these stimulants might be. While popular opinion seems divided, as to whether it could be bacteria or virus, the fact that attacks often flare up for no reason, complicates the matter further.

Breakthroughs

There have however, been a number of interesting and exciting breakthroughs in trying to find Crohn’s disease causes. A number of new studies in microbiology have shown that there could be a link between Crohn's disease and Johne's disease, which usually attacks cattle. New technology has enabled scientists to re-examine the DNA and RNA make-ups and they have made a truly stunning discovery. Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis, the bacteria that causes Johne's disease, has also been found in samples of people suffering from Crohn's disease. The research however, is still in its early stages and needs to be tested further.

Other factors that are emerging as possible Crohn’s disease causes include basic genetics. It is already known that nearly 20% of people are related to someone suffering from this condition. Studies have further shown that the condition is far more prevalent and strong in some families, rather than others. Identifying Crohn’s disease causes is far more difficult than we may think- after all, it may not be a single cause, but a number of factors, working together. Added to this is the fact that the condition seems to flare up for no reason and some patients can go for years without having an attack. For those, who suffer from this debilitating condition, take heart. New technology and medical advancements mean that finding a cure is a dream that is slowly coming true. Researchers are close to finding Crohn’s disease causes and when these are known, they will be able to find a cure.
