Alkaline Diet Crohn's Disease – An Overview

Alkaline diet Crohns disease has piqued many patients, who are desperately seeking a cure. Patients are willing to give natural cures/treatment, such as, adhering to specialized diets a shot. An alkaline diet has been said to improve the health of the patients.
 
Foods that we eat can leave an acid or an alkaline ash after breakdown. The more acidic residue in our bodies, the more prone we seem to be to various health conditions. It is essential that we follow the 80:20 ratios, where we consume 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods.

Alkaline foods are recommended for patients of Crohns disease, as acidic foods can aggravate the conditions and may trigger inflammations or worsen existing inflammations.
 
People, who wish to follow an alkaline diet to ease the symptoms of Crohns disease, should eat natural foods that are highly alkaline. Here is a list of some alkaline foods.
 
Vegetablessuch as broccoli, cucumber, turnips, cabbage, asparagus, brussel sprouts, celery, pumpkin, sea veggies, onions, carrots, peppers, lettuce, garlic, egg plant, and watercress. Barley, potatoes, corn, Brazil nuts, chestnuts, beets, green beans, collard, mustard, wheat and wild greens are good too.
 
Fruits such as lime, lemon, grape fruit, watermelon, cherries, currant, apple, apricots, avocado, nectarine, oranges, peaches, pears, pineapples, dates, figs, mangoes, papaya and tangerines are alkaline.
 
Vegetable and fruit juices are also alkaline in nature, if they are consumed without adding sweeteners. Beverages such as herb tea, and green tea, lemonade, maple syrup are also alkaline in nature.
 
Protein foods that are alkaline include flax seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, millet, nuts, almonds, tofu, yogurt, cottage cheese, chicken breast, and eggs.
 
Fats, such as, olive oil, evening primrose oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, and cod liver oil are alkaline. Spices and condiments are alkaline too. Highly acidic foods such as sugars, coffee, alcohol, cereals, hardened fats, high sugar fruits, and berries are to be avoided.
 
Alkaline Diet Crohns Disease depends on the individual condition of the patients. Some foods work for some patients, where as, the same food may be a trigger for other patients. They have to be careful in trying the various foods or combinations of these alkaline foods, to see if their condition improves or worsens. Certain foods are not advisable, when a person suffers from acute diarrhea. The patients have to eat alkaline ash foods at regular intervals. If a healthy and nutritious diet that has adequate supplements of vitamins and minerals is consumed, the body begins to recover, which can be the first step towards a healthy life.
 
When plenty of fresh fruit juices like, fig juice, vegetable juices especially greens are consumed as such, without sweetening the juices, the body gets a supply of alkaline ash foods that can counter the effects of acidic foods, which can prove to have toxic effects in the long run. A diet rich in anti-oxidants and detoxifying agents can purge the body of harmful toxins. When you start avoiding acidic ash foods, the body starts to regain its acid-alkali balance and starts to recover from the adverse effects of a negative acidic environment. Many have tried alkaline diets, but the exact effect it has, is still being studied. It is recommended that patients, who wish to incorporate an alkaline diet Crohns disease, do so under the guidance of their physician.
